OPEN YOUR MIND ALHAGA HOMESTEAD
Alhaga Caroline och Fredrik

Are you curious about self sufficiency, or maybe you’ve already dipped your toes in it?

This journey started a few years back when Carolin was watchin’ a YouTube clip, and I, Fredrik, asked if she was watchin’ or if she’d forgotten to turn off the TV. It was a video about a fella buildin’ a cabin in the woods. Turns out, she was full of surprises, and shortly after, things started takin’ off with our dreams. Our idea where to share our journey with y’all, learn from each other, and build a community with like minded folks.

Fast forward to today, and it’s just me, Fredrik, continuin’ this journey since Caroline decided to move on with her life. But her philosophy on sustainable livin’ lives on here on the blog, even if the memory of her fades away over time.

Okay, so lately the appeal of self sufficiency and livin’ more sustainably has been on the rise, and for good reason. With concerns about food safety, health, and economics, more and more families are turnin’ to self sufficiency as a way to a better life.  This philosophy is about embracin’ a self sufficient lifestyle, whether you’re thinkin’ about growin’ your own crops, raisin’ animals, or usin’ solar power for your electricity needs.

You could say it’s a modern twist on the old traditional way that suits everyone, whether you live in an apartment or not, by implementin’ small changes in your daily life and gradually buildin’ up your confidence. So, whether you dream of a cabin in the country or wanna incorporate self sufficiency into your city life, there’s a place for you. It’s about takin’ small steps to break free from the limitations of modern life and embracin’ a more independent, resilient way of livin’.

Are you ready to open your mind and maybe discover a whole new unexplored world with sustainable living?

Let’s take the first steps together. Bein’ self sufficient is a lifestyle that’s gained popularity in recent years, as more folks have become interested in self sufficiency and sustainable livin. Whether you live in the country or the city, you can start right where you are today. The easiest way to begin is by producin’ some of your own food. Try plantin’ a small, not so expensive garden or start bakin’ your own bread. You can also learn about raisin’ small animals if you’re interested and have the space, like bees for honey, meat rabbits, or chickens for eggs. Other options for small animal care in self sufficiency include ducks. These micro livestock require a relatively small plot of land and will give you a steady supply of fresh eggs and meat to complement your garden produce.

Now, bein’ self-sufficient ain’t just about growin’ your own grub. It’s also about sustainability and reducin’ consumption. You can slap some solar panels on your roof, compost, recycle, and use more eco friendly cleanin’ products instead of them harsh chemicals that’re hurtin’ our environment somethin’ fierce.

So, without even thinkin’ about it, maybe you’ve already taken the first steps. How many of y’all have solar panels on your roof, grow cucumbers on your balcony, or bake your own bread? There are so many self-sufficient skills you can learn, from gardenin’ to preservin’, smokin’, and dryin’.

Why not build a greenhouse to extend your growin’ season, start a mushroom farm, or learn how to propagate plants? Self sufficiency ain’t just a hobby; it’s a lifestyle that can save you money, reduce your carbon footprint, and give you a sense of accomplishment. So, start small, be open minded, and don’t be afraid to try new things as your resources and situation allow. As you gain more experience and learn new skills, you can use ’em to make some extra cash or trade services.

Becomin’ more self sufficient is an excitin’ journey towards independence and sustainability. Just imagine reducin’ your dependence on stores and businesses and learnin’ to provide and produce what you need for your own survival. This gives you not only a feelin’ of freedom but also helps you fight them risin’ cost of livin’. Think about it, when you don’t gotta buy as much, the impact and stress of skyrocketin’ food prices decrease significantly. To get started, you can just dip your toes in the water by tryin’ out a few activities.

I can almost guarantee you’ll be surprised over time by how much you’ll want to do and try, and before you know it, you’ll be hooked.
